Summer Info and Start of School 2015-2016

Welcome Back Letter from DGS

We hope you have a safe and relaxing summer. We are very excited about all of our new and returning families who will join us for another successful year at DGS.  If you are receiving this letter, it is because we have your child projected to DGS for the upcoming school year and we want to inform you of all of the important dates and information for a successful start to the school year at DGS. There is a lot of information in this letter. Please read it all carefully!

Summer Office Hours
DGS office is now open Monday - Thursday from 8am-4pm and Friday from 8am-1pm. We will be closed for lunch from 12:00-1:00. Please note that we will only be registering during the dates/times listed below.

Registration at DGS
Every family will have to register before school starts, even if you were enrolled at DGS the previous year. New students, please bring a birth certificate, proof of address (must state service address), and immunizations. Returning students, please bring immunizations and proof of address if there has been a change of address.

The quickest and easiest way to register your student is via parent portal, an online tool for parents to access their student’s information. The online registration window is open through August 16, 2015. If you do not have a parent portal account you can sign up via the Denver Public Schools website. You must have a parent portal account before you can register your student and this takes several days to get the account verified, so please go to to sign up for your account as soon as possible. If you are unable to register your student on-line you can come to the school during one of the below dates and times to register.

Student Fees
Student fees will be due at registration payable by cash or check in the amount of $35.00 for ECE-2nd grade and $50.00 for 3rd-8th grade students. Student fees help make the field studies program possible and pay for classroom supplies throughout the building. All students will need to pay student fees or make fee payment arrangements prior to the first day of school.

Registration dates and times:
Tuesday, August 11: 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 12th: 11:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. and 3:00-6:00 p.m.
Thursday, August 13th: 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Change in DPS Immunization policy
In accordance with the change in policy all students will need to provide immunizations, (or a yearly opt out form) signed by the physician prior to the start of school. Please ensure to bring a copy or immunizations or a signed opt out form to register.

School supply lists and the 2015-2016 calendar are available on the DGS website and will be available at registration.

Meet and Greet will be Monday, August 17th at DGS
5:00: Watermelon and lemonade social with new and old friends, sponsored by the PTA
5:30-6:30: Meetings with teachers and families in on the field or in classrooms
This will be different than previous years, it’s more of an event to meet your teachers and learn about the first week of school. It is important to be there so you can learn about transportation and safety expectations . Academic expectations will be covered at Back to School Night.

Back To School Night will be on Thursday, September 10th starting from 5:30-7:00 pm
This is required for all parents and guardians. It will be the night for you to learn about all school wide and academic expectations for the year. It is essential that all parents attend this evening.

First day of School
1st through 8th grade will start on Thursday August 20tht starting at 8:00 a.m.
ECE and Kindergarten will start with 1/2 days on August 20th and 21st. You will find out which day at registration.

Free breakfast for every student begins at 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop off students before 7:30 am as there is no supervision.
